What’s up AP Lit ninjas?

Go your attention??? Good. Now go do your homework.

What is your homework?? You don’t remember, huh? Oh ok, it was to read the rest of part II in everyone’s favorite book: Heart of Darkness. Give yourself some time, this section of the reading is about 20 pages long.

As always, be prepared for a quiz – note to self: make a quiz – and make sure you’re ready to discuss the material in parts I and II of the novel.

Also, in case you have missed it, here is the last in-class activity that we did: Part 1 – Marlow on Life

Finishing the Great Gatsby…. Finally!

As you all know, you should be finishing up the Great Gatsby (chapter 9 is the last chapter!) for class on Friday. As always, be prepared for a quiz. You should also complete the vocabulary assignment for chapter 9 (as well as chapter 8 and chapter 7 if you have not done those).

THERE WILL BE A VOCABULARY TEST ON MONDAY COVERING CHAPTERS 7, 8 AND 9 – BE PREPARED (like Scar in the Lion King)

Also here are links to the other worksheets and activities that we have done recently:

AP Lit – October 20

Hello literary ninjas…

Today in class you worked on the assignment “Charting Marlow’s Journey”, which should allow you to get a head start on item 1 in your ongoing journal assignment. If you did not complette this in class, please do so for tomorrow.

Your homework tonight is to complete the “Company Accountant analysis” worksheet, which we will be reviewing and discussing in class tomorrow as well.

There is NO ADDIONAL READING tonight, but if you would like to get a head start on the reading for Monday, you will need to finish part 1 of Heart of Darkness.

AP Lit – Heart Of Darkness Resources

As you know, your homework for the weekend is to read the first five pages of Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, and begin working on yourongoing journaling assignment.

There are a lot of great resources online to help you understand this book.

You can find the full text here: http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/toc/modeng/public/ConDark.html

Here is the “No Fear” Literature version (if you’re having trouble “interpreting” the events in the story: http://www.sparknotes.com/nofear/lit/heart-of-darkness/

I find the the shmoop guides are ususally more helpful than the sparknotes guides, but here’s a link to both for you:

This is a short, helpful video that explains the story:

This week in AP Lit

This week we have been working with a poem and short story, both having to do with Africa. The poem – The Stranglehold of English Lit – we analyzed in class. The short story – the old chief Mshlanga – you read for homework, and then we discussed it the following day.

The final element was a retelling of a scene from “The Old Chief Mshlanga” from the perspective of one of the other characters – assignment sheet: mshlanga diff perspectives – most of which were both well-written and creative.

Tomorrow we will be finishing our introduction to Heart of Darkness, I will check out the books to you, and give you your ongoing reaidng assingments.

If you want to get a jump on the book, you can find the full version online here:
